This month's new listings

December has been a busy month for me. I have made several new 'ready to buy' items, that are now listed in my Etsy shop, and I am working on a bespoke order that will be worn to a Christmas wedding.

The bespoke fascinator is still a work in progress, but I thought that I would share some photos here of my work on the 'ready to buy' fascinators, as well as some pictures of the finished items.

For more details of these fascinators, and the rest of my 'ready to buy' items, please see my Etsy shop. I will probably post some photos of the bespoke fascinator next week.

Original, Bespoke, Unique

Creating original designs is one of the great joys I find in millinery work. Subtle changes like a slight alteration to a cutting pattern, a different twist in the fabric, or the use of different trimmings can produce dramatically different results. Take, for example, my latest finished piece. Just a small change to a cutting pattern that I have used many times before, a bit of imagination, and ta da! A new design, that I personally think is elegant, sophisticated and striking. I particularly love the chic colour of the graphite sinamay and the delicate black feathers.

I have recently been working on a number of bespoke fascinators. Custom orders based on the individual requirements of the customer. Whether it be adapting a design, or reproducing an item in a different colourway to match an outfit, I find working on bespoke orders very rewarding. If you are interested in commissioning a custom piece, please contact me.

As all my items are hand crafted, no two pieces are quite the same. I use the highest quality materials, many of which are natural rather than synthetic, and in themselves contain variations. Pieces are finished to suit both the design and the qualities of the materials, resulting in a unique fascinator.

The beginning

Welcome to my new website! The online home of Sophie Shields Millinery, where you can keep up to date with my news, see a glimpse of my creative millinery process, view finished items and access my Etsy shop.

I am based in the town of Frome, in Somerset, England, where I live with my husband and our two (soon to be three!) lovely little boys. I have, and continue to, study traditional couture hat making techniques, and greatly enjoy crafting fascinators and other headdresses from the highest quality materials.

Whilst I have a lovely collection of ready to buy pieces in my Etsy shop, I will also happily make items to your own requirements. Whether you are inspired by something in my gallery, but need it in a different colour, or you have your own design ideas, I will happily make pieces to your own requirements so that your head piece complements your outfit perfectly for any special occasion. Contact me for more details.
